"Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen

Title: Pride and Prejudice
Author: Jane Austen
Genre: Romance
Overall: 10/10

Synopsis:
"Pride and Prejudice" is a witty comedy of manners—one of the most popular novels of all time—that features splendidly civilized sparring between the proud Mr. Darcy and the prejudiced Elizabeth Bennet as they play out their spirited courtship in a series of eighteenth-century drawing-room intrigues.

Jo's review:
I don't like romance in books. Or at least, it's not really important for me. So why did I love 'Pride&Prejudice' so much? There's no need to talk about what this book is actually about - everyone knows it as it's a timeless classic. He was proud and she was prejudiced. He pretended not to love her and she tried not to love him. The portrayal of Elizabeth is one of my favourite female portraits in literature. An independent woman in the 18th century who thought that she will never love any man as much as she loves books (I could write myself the same description, only the century would be different). Even though it is a romance, this story is not soppy or trivial. The book of books when it comes to the romantic literature. And I have a massive crush on Mr. Darcy.

Favourite quotes:
“I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of anything than of a book! When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library.”

“There are few people whom I really love, and still fewer of whom I think well. The more I see of the world, the more am I dissatisfied with it; and every day confirms my belief of the inconsistency of all human characters, and of the little dependence that can be placed on the appearance of merit or sense.”
